Welcome to our web-site

Crane Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, Inc. is an award-winning (visit "Awards" page) not-for-profit organization for equine rescue and rehabilitation located in Westport, New York.  We're proud to have been featured in the June 2005 issue of Adirondack Life magazine in an article entitled "Horse Heaven", in NAFE magazine's member profile:  "The Horse Rescuer", the Fall 2006 EMMA Bulletin, "Second Chance" and recipients of the Humanitarian and Distinguished Alumnae Award, nominated for a 2008 ASPCA lifetime achievement award with a story featured in the Winter 2009 issue of ASPCA Action, and listed in Bill Heller's book After the Finish Line: The Race to End Horse Slaughter In America, as one of the organization's teaming up to help save horses from this horrible fate.  Our work is only possible because of the kind hearts and generous spirits of people like you.

Our program is 100% volunteer.  We have no paid staff.  Our administrative costs are less than 6% of our expenses, meaning that 94 cents of every dollar of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the care of the horses.  You can truly mean the difference between life and death.  In addition to saving equine lives, your financial support enables us to help children, adults and those with special needs through our education and outreach programs.  Please visit the "Make a Donation" page to learn the different ways that you can help.

"By saving the life of one horse, we may not be changing the world, but we are changing the world for that one horse."

The horse industry encompasses many arenas including racing, rodeo, dressage, competitive events, Olympic jumping, college and university equestrian teams, guided trail rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the back yard friend.  Everyone has experienced the magnificence of these animals in one way or another --- some through hands-on, and others through admiration and wonder for these amazing animals that carry cowboys and Indians, or soldiers to battle.  But few realize the fate of many of these athletes who give their lives to humans.  Between 50,000 and 100,000 horses are commercially slaughtered each year in the United States, and many more inhumanely die each year from neglect, abandonment, abuse, or the lack of knowledge to properly care for the animals.
